Student Law Clerk

Join Our Team

 We seeking a team of Student Law Clerks to support our Family Law and Crminal Defense teams.


Responsibilites:

  • Assist attorneys in tasks such as preparing pleadings and legal memoranda, conducting legal research, reviewing and summarizing disclosure and records, meeting with clients at the jail, and observing court proceedings
  • Conducts legal research through the use of computerized legal research systems such as Lexis and Westlaw, or statutes, U.S. Constitution, legal periodicals, law reviews, digests, legal encyclopedias, codes, regional and federal reporters, slip opinions and various case law
  • Identify applicable statutes or rules that are in force and effect for the particular matter
  • Research points and rules of law and prepares written reports summarizing research
  • Draft motions, responses and legal memoranda
  • Interviews victims and witnesses
  • Conduct routine investigations on less serious charges for background and basic information
  • Confer with attorneys regarding legal issues;
  • Maintain appropriate security and confidentiality of information created or encountered in the performance of assigned duties
  • Occasionally speak to clients, witnesses, and other case involved parties, such as law enforcement agencies, in-person and/or on the phone


Requirements:

  • Law Clerks should have completed their 1L year
  • Preference will be given to 2L students who have completed Evidence and Crimial Law and/or Family Law depending on area of interest
  • Candidates should attach a resume highlighting relevant coursework and Journal membership, an unofficial transcript, and a writing sample (Note is preferred if completed). No cover letter is necessary. Please note your interest area of Family Law, Criminal Defense, or both.
